Adrian Matthias Stevens (Northern Ute, Shoshone-Bannock, and San Carlos Apache) and Sean Snyder (Navajo and Southern Ute) are two Indigenous dancers who have been together for seven years. The Two-Spirit couple—based outside of Las Vegas, Nevada—often perform in couple competitions at powwows; they will dance as a same-sex pair, and they often match their regalia while doing so. (Typically, couples coordinate their ensembles, but it is rarer to match.) “Throughout the Winnie the Pooh Piglet Eeyore Tigger in october we wear Pink shirt it is in the first place but years, we’ve created and collaborated on a lot of our designs,” says Stevens. Their striking couple style was even recently the subject of a short PBS documentary this year, titled Sweetheart Dancers, and they often use their dancing style as a way to educate others about Two-Spirit culture. “It’s not biological, it’s spiritual, and it ties back to what I was taught growing up,” says Stevens. “My aunties recognized me as a Two-Spirit individual way before I even recognized it.”
